Flip Flops and Healthy Feet

Author: Admin  //  Category: Flip Flops

I have worn flip flops for as long as I can remember and have never really thought much about the possible implications. However there have been recent reports about foot problems caused by wearing flip flops. Apparently the lack of support given by flip flops to the foot can lead to a number of complaints. Tendonitis in the foot is a possibility as well as pain in the heels from lack of arch support, a clawing effect on the toes caused by trying to grip onto the flip flop and then blisters between the toes as your feet get used to the toe post.

From a personal point of view I have learnt to break my flip flops in to minimise the blister issue and as I do tend to walk long distances in them I now also make sure I am wearing a pair that do have an arch support; I have noticed a difference and my feet are very happy - they are able to enjoy the freedom but still have the necessary support.

My other flip flops haven’t been abandoned though, it is just a case of choosing the right pair for the right occasion. For social outings flip flops are now available in many designs. Gone are the days when they were rubbery and plain; now we can choose from a wide selection of materials from plastics through to fabric and there are colours galore. There are glittery or beaded versions, fun designs and sophisticated ones as well.

Wearing flip flops also encourages you to take extra care of your feet as they are on show so you will take more trouble over your toe manicure and also moisturise your feet more often to keep them looking beautiful. So all in all I think that as long as you are sensible and remember your feet do need looking after you can carry on enjoying the flip flop season and your feet can enjoy all the fresh air.
